Hartford Ranks Low Among Big Cities for Efficiency

HartfordBusiness.com
May 22, 2015
Hartford ranks 45th out of 51 large U.S. cities for energy efficiency, according to a Washington, D.C. energy-policy nonprofit.

ACEEE scored cities on their government and community-wide goal setting and performance management, building code stringency, spending on electric and gas efficiency measures, and modes of transportation, among other metrics.

Hartford received a score of 23 out of a potential total of 100 points.

The city was docked points in a wide range of areas, from lacking a mandate to improve fuel-efficiency of city vehicles to not issuing regular reports to the public about its efficiency progress.

Hartford received full points for asset benchmarking, having a comprehensive retrofit strategy, using combined heat and power, availability of comprehensive energy efficiency services, and utility customers’ access to energy use data.

It was the second such city-level report ACEEE has released, and the first that included Hartford. The report this year added 17 additional cities, including Hartford.

ACEEE has previously included Connecticut in its state-level energy rankings.

Boston scored the highest in this year’s ranking, with a score of 82 out of 100.
