Danbury clean energy manufacturer FuelCell Energy on Tuesday announced it had been selected to perform as $23.7 million carbon capture project for the U.S. Department of Energy, pending a negotiation on the deal between the two sides.
The project seeks to install a two-megawatt fuel cell system onto the exhaust from an existing coal plant to see if FuelCell’s technology can prevents carbon dioxide from leaking into the atmosphere while at the same time producing electricity.
FuelCell expects the negotiations to be finished and the award to be finalized by the end of September.
If successful, FuelCell would move onto the second phase of the project, where it would install 11 fuel cells at power plants for the U.S. Department of Energy.
