Connecticut’s mass transportation division CTtransit announced Tuesday it will purchase a 400 kilowatt fuel cell from South Windsor manufacturer Dooan in order to power a maintenance and storage facility in Hamden.
This is the second fuel cell system to power a CTtransit facility. The first at its Hartford garage went live in August 2012 and also is maintained by Doosan.
Funding for the Hamden fuel cell came in part from the federal Transit Investments for Greenhouse Gas and Energy Reduction (TIGGER) program that started in 2009.
The Hamden fuel cell will supply electricity, heat and hot water for the facility, which is the base of operations for 135 buses that serve 17 cities and towns in the New Haven area. To Green Guide.
